KSC Bookstore Information and Policies

Textbook/Course Material Buyback Policy

The Bookstore Buys Books at the end of the FALL & SPRING Semesters

Our policy is to buy college textbooks which students decide they no longer need or want. If instructors inform us
before buyback days that they will require any of these particular titles in the forthcoming semester, the bookstore will
pay up to 50% of the current selling price. You may be offered a wholesale price if the bookstore is not buying or has purchased enough of a title.

We do not normally repurchase workbooks or study guides which have filled-in pages that cannot be reused or books
with excessive hi-lighting which would make the books useless to the next potential purchaser.

A wholesaler is onsite during the rest of the year buying textbooks.

Old Editions. Most old editions have no value and cannot be resold. The average life of a textbook is about three years.
The closer a book gets to this point the less value it has. Therefore, it is advisable to sell your books as soon as possible
after you’ve determined you no longer need them.
Paperbacks. Paperbacks are called “trade” books and are generally pre-priced on the front or back cover. These editions
are subject to frequent adoption changes, lack durable bindings and most importantly, enjoy no nationwide demand as
used textbooks. Thus, we can only pay between 10% and 20% of the retail price and the books often end up on our sale table.
When to sell or not to sell. The sooner after each semester that you sell your books the betteryour chances are of receiving 50%. This is because at this time of year our inventories are themost depleted and we are receiving orders for
the next semester. By the first day of classes ina new semester we usually cannot pay 50% because we already have
adequate quantities of the books in stock.
